When listing a home for sale, first impressions matter. It’s helpful to improve the exterior of your property to attract buyers and get a good offer. Here are a few tips and tricks to boost fall curb appeal.

Boost Fall Curb Appeal: Pressure Wash the Siding

Rent a pressure washer or hire a company for the task. Clean the siding to make your home look new again. You can also pressure wash the walkways, driveway, front porch, and deck to improve the appearance of your property.

Clean the Windows

Over time, dirt, grime, and pollen build up on the glass, making them look cloudy and dull. To get them sparkling clean again, mix equal parts water and vinegar in a spray bottle. Spray the glass and use a soft cloth or microfiber towel to wipe them down until they’re dry.

Improve the Front Door

The front door is one of the first things guests see when they visit, so make sure it looks clean and inviting. Apply a coat of paint in a bold new color, polish the hardware, and add a wreath or welcome sign. These small touches make a difference in how a property looks from the street.

Plant Fall-Blooming Flowers

A colorful display of flowers at the front door looks inviting. In the fall, mums are always popular for their yellow and orange blooms. Add fall-blooming annuals in flower pots on the front porch and the garden beds, and create a spot by the mailbox for growing plants.

Improve Outdoor Lighting to Boost Fall Curb Appeal

As the days get shorter, outdoor lighting becomes more important. Not only does good lighting improve visibility after dark, but it also makes your home look more inviting from the street. Here are a few ways to add more light.

  • Add solar lights along the walkway or driveway.
  • Install lighting along the front steps to boost safety.
  • Hang string lights around the front porch to add to the ambiance of outdoor living spaces.

Remove and Store Window Screens

After summer, some homeowners replace the windows screens with storm windows for additional protection from harsh winter weather. Remove the screens to allow more light into the home and make the windows appear clear and bright from the curb.

If the window screen is attached with spring clips, squeeze the clips and pull the screen out. If held in place with screws, use a screwdriver to remove the screws and then lift the screen out. After removing the screens, clean them with a mild soap and water solution. Rinse each screen well and allow it to air dry completely before storing it for the season.

These tips will boost your curb appeal this fall, so your home looks its best all season.
